Give us back our gun rights!

Mall robberies, ATM bombings, Car jackings, Armoured Car hijacking, murder, rape. Welcome to the ANC run rainbow nation, where politicians get fleets of mercenaries for their wives and our concupiscent president fly all over the world on the taxpayer’s dime while the criminals are turning our once beautiful country into a war-zone. Some people may nostalgically compare it to the Wild West but there’s nothing nostalgic or amusing about the crimes committed against our fathers and brothers, mothers and daughters.

Yes, it’s a right fine mess. And to top it all off, you get to read articles in the news about a crime syndicate being taken down by police and private security forces in Gauteng this past long weekend.

While this is certainly good news, it only goes to highlight a distressing problem: While one syndicate is off the streets now, there are still hundreds operating in Gauteng alone, never mind the rest of the nation. And, thanks to our useless legal system; with corruption and disappearing dockets; how long before this syndicate gets back on the streets again.

It’s certainly a disconcerting problem. And, while our representatives in Parliament assures us that the police are battling to get the crime problem under control, the government passes more and more legislature to limit the amount of firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens, thereby cutting their protection off at the knees. Ever since the inception of the Firearms Control Act of 2000 it’s become progressively harder, and not to mention more expensive, to legally purchase a firearm in South Africa.

It can take up to six months to get approved, cost thousands of Rands and that doesn’t include the cost of the gun. But why does the government want to limit the gun freedom of the citizenry? It’s not as if they have the crime situation under control, which they don’t. Could it be because they are afraid of an armed citizen in knowledge of his rights? Perhaps, but they shouldn’t be concerned.

It’s the lawless, the people who think they can deprive others of their rights to satisfy their greed that needs to be afraid. So, we call on all South Africans, regardless of colour, sex or creed, to stand up and say no to more restricting gun control legislature. Give us back our gun rights!
